Welcome to On the Sofa with Simi! If you don’t know me yet, I’m Simi, the founder of Polysemy Beauty, with over 10 years of experience in the beauty industry, specialising in makeup and semi-permanent makeup like microblading. Today, I'm sharing the top five reasons you may "regret" getting your eyebrows microbladed.
But first, let’s clarify what microblading is.
What is Microblading?
Microblading is a semi-permanent makeup technique where pigment is inserted into the skin using a small hand-held blade to mimic natural hair strokes, creating fuller-looking brows. Unlike brow tints, which sit on the surface of the skin, microblading deposits pigment beneath the skin’s surface for long-lasting results.
Microblading vs. Machine Brows
There’s often confusion between microblading and machine brows (also known as semi-permanent makeup brows). Microblading uses a manual blade, whereas machine brows use a tattoo machine that deposits pigment deeper into the skin. Both methods have their benefits, but microblading provides a more natural hair-stroke look, while machine brows last longer.
My Top 5 “Regrets” of Microblading
1. Too Much Time on Your Hands
One surprising downside? Too much free time! Once your brows are always "on point," you’ll no longer have to spend ages perfecting them every morning. No more running late to work or school just to fix uneven brows. Now you have all this extra time in the morning, but you might find yourself asking, “What do I do now?”
2. No Need for Brow Products
Microblading will save you tons of money on brow products. From pencils to gels and pomades, all those beauty essentials become unnecessary. So, if you love experimenting with new brow products, this could be a "regret"—you’ll miss the excuse to splurge on the latest brow innovations.
3. Your Emotions Are Now on Display
With perfectly shaped brows, you can no longer hide behind your expressions. Your brows will be speaking for you! Whether you're raising a skeptical brow or trying to remain neutral, your new brows will give away your true emotions, even when you don’t want them to.
4. No More Excuses at the Pool
Say goodbye to dodging the pool or avoiding water-based activities. Your microbladed brows won’t smudge or disappear, meaning no more "I can’t swim because my eyebrows will come off" excuses! Now, whether you’re on holiday or with the kids, you’ll have to jump into the pool without worrying about your brows.
5. Compliments Everywhere
Get ready for all the compliments! One common "regret" clients share is that people notice their brows and can’t stop complimenting them. You’ll hear things like, “You look great!” or “What’s different about you?” While it's flattering, the extra attention can take some getting used to.
Final Thoughts
Microblading is a fantastic way to save time, money, and frustration over your daily brow routine. However, it’s crucial to do your research and find a licensed, qualified technician. Always ask for certifications, licenses, and before-and-after photos so you know exactly what to expect.
